The stars aligned today, I was home, the weather was decent, and I was healthy. I am very much out of shape, and need to get back up to speed, so I was looking for a short ~4 mile trip. I also wanted to go somewhere I have not been, so I opted for Willoughby Bay. While looking at maps of the bay I saw "Captains Quarters Nature Center Park" that I had not noticed before, and I decided to check it out on the way to the Willoughby Boat Ramp. I found the park, it was a little difficult, and I decided to start the trip from here instead.
I headed out to the West following the bridge, along the docks, I kept seeing these little black and white ducks, but I could not get close enough to them to get a picture. I turned under the the bridge, and did not see anything that exciting, and I really felt that I could not make it out to the bridge and back, so I turned back to the East to check out the other side of the bay. The Eastern end of the bay had a little more activity, a few Pelicans, some more of the little black and white ducks, as well as an Osprey, and other sea birds.
To finish things off I headed further East in the channel that parallels I-64, did not see a lot there until I got to the end and was drifting along reeds, when I had one of those I really wish I had a fishing pole with me. I looked into the water and saw 5 speckled trout that were about 15-16 inches in length,as well as a dozen or so smaller 10 inch trout, they all just kind of swam away, not in any big rush, but they just cruised away.
Until next time, and hopefully it will be less the 7 weeks...
