Well it has been about 3 weeks since I have had a chance to get out on the water... Went out to the Blackwater River with Brian, and we opted to head upstream this visit, since my last attempt here was shortened by an approaching thunderstorm. The river was fairly crowded, there were about 10 or so fishing boats, and 3 kayakers not including us, which seems a lot considering the remoteness of the river.
We were limited by a bunch of fallen trees about 2.5 miles up the stream, we did consider portaging, but decided against it, as the report we had heard from people coming down stream that it was a couple hundred yards of trees blocking the way, but we may try it again with better footwear and an earlier start... On the way back we saw several indications of beavers working over the trunks of trees. Towards the launch we also saw several bald eagles overhead, instead of the numerous buzzards we saw on the trip upstream.
Next trip out here may be a one way to Franklin, or to check out the potential launches at Burdette Rd. and Unity Rd., but looking at the maps there may not be much above Unity Rd. I have not seen a launch to the South of Franklin on the Blackwater, but I am looking, if you know of any let me know...
