It is amazing what a difference a month can make...
I was last out on Ashville Bridge Creek in early July, and at the time I noted the large amount of lotus spanning the creek. The lotus have continued to expand, and now completely cover the creek in several places, except for the most part where they were growing before.
I meet up with a neighbor today, who is new to kayaking, and was taking his new kayak out for the first time. We were both pretty amazed at the amount of lotus on the creek. The passage through the plants was pretty difficult, but doable.
Just after clearing the lotus we saw 5 Egret congregating in a cypress tree, they departed as we approached. The Egrets, always seem a bit more leery then the Heron.
About a mile down the we also saw a cypress tree that took a direct lightning hit from a recent storm, and essentially blew the top off the tree.
We made a side trip up Muddy Creek on our way, I always enjoy paddling Muddy Creek when there is enough water.
The wind was kicking up back bay a little, but not that bad. We got to the Horn Point facility, and I noticed a new addition to the facility, a barricade between the parking lot and the field, I guess the refuge management, got tired of the eco-tour companies driving their vehicles across the field.
