Well after the visit last week, I decided that I would give the Nottoway try, and also give downtown franklin (Blackwater Landing) a try, as well as checking out another launch site (Joyners Bridge).
Even though there was very little flow to the river, I felt I would paddle up stream, and use the current (if any) to my advantage for the return.
This section of the Nottoway is fairly wide, and a nice relaxing paddle, lined with marshes, and several small little inlets to explore.
There are several large patches of lily pads along the river in various places, along with various types blooming plants along the banks. Although I did not actually see a lot of wildlife this time around, there was evidence of plenty, starting with various small mammal tracks at the ramp, to the the remainder of a tree where a beaver had been gnawing.
I do plan on returning here, probably after the weather cools a bit, and exploring a lot more of the river.
