It has been about 9 months, since my last trip on Smiths Creek, or the Northwest River, and I have planned on coming here over the winter, but who knows...
Launching today, was a bit interesting, because I did not hang my kayak up last night, knowing I would be going out again today. My son (Nick) decided that he would re-adjust the everything to his size. I was trying to figure out where the cables for the rudder were snagged, when I looked at one of the straps that had been adjusted all the way, and a few minutes later I was on my way...
The hornets nest near the launch was abandoned in the fall, and is falling apart now.
The wild Iris are pretty much in full bloom right now, and I spent a lot of time taking pictures of them on the way down the creek. Yes I know I probably took way to many pictures of Iris, but they are only around for a couple of weeks...I think I am starting to get a clue when it comes to using the new camera, I came to the realization that certain settings get reset when you change the mode on the camera. So I need to figure out how to set what I want to be the default, or just remember what needs to be set. One thing is the auto focus, it has 3 frames that it uses, and if I set it to the center it seems to work better for me. The hard part for me has been, that I can mess with the camera all week, and not have a problem, but I get in the kayak drifting around trying to take a picture of something moving in the breeze.
Made it to the Northwest River, and I was enjoying some solitude wondering why on such a beautiful day were there so few people on the water. That changed about ten minutes later, as it seems that someone opened the gates. Powerboats, water skiers, and jet skis.
I did try something new this week, realtime posting to kayakvb.info, it worked for the most part, the title made it through, but the body needed a push, I may try it again, but I am not sure if it has much value, and probably to geeky...
