Looking at the forecast, I wanted to be off the water by noon, and I wanted some place close to reduce the drive time. So I decided on Horn Point again, but heading South this time into Shipps Bay. There was a nice breeze out of the East, about 10MPH, and the bay had some chop, but not that bad.
Looking at the ditches on the way down, I was pretty sure I would not be launching from the ramp, but the sandbar instead, and that was confirmed upon arrival. The facility looks like it has just had some maintenance, the grass was cut, and what is left of the shed that TS Ernesto destroyed has been hauled away.
Heading out the chop was okay, with the occasional wave coming over the bow, but nothing to worry about. Not a lot to talk about this trip, and nothing real exciting to report. I was thinking that it had been a long time since I had seen a nutria, and was wondering if the flooding from Ernesto had gotten rid of them, but then I saw one. I guess it was wishful thinking on my part.
Still trying to get the hang of the new camera, I guess I should have been worried when the first couple of pages were instructions on how to read the manual, but I think I am starting to get the hang of it. I guess the nice thing about digital cameras is that you are not spending money to pay for developing your mistakes.
So what else, oh yeah those damn condos at Sandbridge, which were supposed to be designed to blend into the surroundings, since when does Orange, Blue, Yellow and Pink blend into a National Wildlife Refuge. The Virginia Beach City council screwed up on that one, but I guess using Virginia Beach City Council and Screwed Up in the same sentence would be redundant. Everywhere I go on Back Bay I see that abomination...
