Fall has come to Southeast Virginia (Finally). Weather was fantastic sunny temps in the mid 70's, winds about 10 out of the East. It has been over a month since I have been on the water locally and almost a month since I been on the water at all. Work Travel health and weather have all conspired against me. So today I decided to get back in the groove in a big way, almost to big. I endeavored out on a 14 mile jaunt from Little Island VA to Knott's Island NC. In all actuality I should have planned a route about a mile or so shorter, because I hit the wall with about a mile and a half left to go. The change from Spring to Fall in this area is very dramatic, as all the wildlife is beginning to become more and more sparse, the only thing that appears constant are the birds, different types, but I always see birds when I'm out.
Overall this trip was fairly uneventful, because I had to pretty much avoid the majority False Cape State Park due to a "Game Management" hunt going on, or at least that was what the sign said. From the middle of the channel I could see a fair amount of interesting places in the distance.
This is a trip I will repeat, and I see several alternate routes, but I will plan to spend more time out next time.
