Carolanne Farm Park - Kayak Virginia Beach

Carolanne Farms Park kayak launch is a purpose built kayak and canoe launch facility, that provides access to the Northern Branch of the Elizabeth River. The two major things to remember about this site are, it is tidal, and it is a long way from parking. Overall though I wish the City of Virginia Beach put as much thought into the other launch sites throughout the city as this one.

So lets address the tidal issue, when I visited, it was low tide and it was a good 3 foot drop from the end of the dock to the water, and the adjoining ramp looks like it could be a little tricky. So you may want to check tide times before using this facility. Mid to high tide, looks like it would be fairly easy to launch..

The distance from the on street parking to the launch is about a quarter mile, so you are going to need a cart here.

Two things would make this a perfect spot...

1. A floating dock. I have no idea what the tidal swing is here, or if a floating dock would even be feasible given the tidal swings.

2. Off Street parking, which would also make it shorter to the launch, but I can completely understand any issues that the people living on either side of the access may have with that.

3. Yeah I know I said 2, but this is the standard needs a restroom thing.

The Directions from the City Of Virginia Beach Are:

From the Virginia Beach resort take Route 44 to Witchduck Road. At the stoplight at the bottom of the exit ramp, turn left onto Witchduck Road.

At the Princess Anne Road stoplight, turn right. Turn left onto Parliament Drive (the first stoplight after the Witchduck Road intersection). Continue about 2 blocks and turn right onto Challedon Drive. Pass Carolanne Farm Park #1 and continue for about a mile. Carolanne Farm Park #2 will be on the right.
